Climate Change Commission (CCC) and Department of Finance (DOF) officially named the new members of CCC in an online press conference today, October 13, 2021.

Southern Luzon State University (SLSU) President Dr. Doracie B. Zoleta-Nantes, together with other new National Panel of Technical Experts (NPTE) members were welcomed by DOF Secretary and CCC Chairperson-designate, Carlos G. Dominguez, CCC Vice Chairperson and Executive Director Emmanuel M. de Guzman, and CCC Commissioners Noel Antonio V. Gaerlan, and Rachel Anne S. Herrera.

According to Secretary de Guzman, the newly-appointed panel of technical experts shall guide the commission as they strengthen evidence-based action towards addressing the climate crisis.

Chairperson Dominguez told the audience that Dr. Zoleta-Nantes was chosen because she advocates to involve the government and share to the people the effects of climate change that the common people can understand.

Dr. Zoleta-Nantes promised to bring attention to the need for multidisciplinarity in climate change adaptation. She advocates for a partnership between state universities and colleges, and local government units so that they can collaborate with the communities on the relevant disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation projects to build a more climate-resilient and more disaster-resilient Philippines. At the end of her speech, she thanked the Commission for giving her and the other experts an opportunity to serve the country.

The group of experts will provide technical advice to CCC regarding climate science and its cross-cutting sectoral themes, green technologies, and best practices for risk assessment and enhancement of the adaptive capacity of vulnerable communities to potential impacts of climate change, as stated in Climate Change Act of 2009 or Republic Act No. 9729.
