SLSU Creates Livelihood Opportunity for Paete Locals
The Southern Luzon State University (SLSU) through the memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the Paete local government unit, promised to create more livelihood options for the locals of the said municipality.
The MOA signing event took place at the Municipal Building of Paete, Laguna on October 20,2021.
The agreement focused on beekeeping (meliponiculture) and agroforestry technology adoption as a livelihood option and resource conservation strategy of LGU and locals of Paete.
During Paete Mayor Rojilyn “Mutuk” Bagabaldo’s inspirational message, he recalled the downfall of the sculpture industry in his municipality with the continuous lockdown and cutting down of trees. Their municipality saw the need to plant trees, and to propagate them. He said that he found out about a study conducted by SLSU proponents and then established a relationship with the university.
SLSU President Dr. Doracie B. Zoleta-Nantes assured the Paete LGU that this MOA is just the start of their many collaborations in the future. She also pledged that the SLSU will allocate funding and human resources who will collaborate into making their dream partnership into a reality.
Meanwhile, the other people present in the MOA signing expressed their gratitude as the partnership with the municipality and university strengthens. Present in the event also include: Vice Mayor Aurelio Paraiso, Mr. Geronimo Palmero, Agriculture Technician Mark Joseph Garcia, Project Leader Dr. Amalia E. Almazol, REPDI VP Dr. Marissa Esperal, and ORS Director Engr. Lourdes Quevada.
Amidst the upcoming elections, Mayor Mutuk promised to leave the collaboration with SLSU as a legacy, in hopes to give way to the boom of the sculpture industry in Paete.
