Gov’t Targets 90% Vaccinated Teachers, Students for F2F Classes
The government targets to finish the vaccination of at least 90% of teachers, students and other personnel against COVID-19 by the end of November.
The National Task Force (NTF) against COVID-19 stated that this is the government’s preparation to ensure a safe environment for the students and school personnel for the gradual reopening of face-to-face classes amidst the pandemic.
Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr., vaccine czar and NTF chief implementer said, “On the opening of the school, we will vaccinate teachers and students and personnel to at least 90 percent before the end of November.”
Galvez said that the vaccination of minors ages 12 to 17 years old is essential for the opening of face-to-face classes and “ancillary business” related to the education sector.
It was stated earlier by Commission of Higher Education (CHED) Chairperson Prospero de Vera that 57% of teachers and students were vaccinated against COVID-19, and the government intends to push the number of the vaccination drive higher for the education sector.
De Vera said, “The good news is in some schools, the vaccination level is very high, as high as 90 plus percent. And 53 percent of our HEIs have reported a vaccination level of more than 75 percent among their personnel.”
Meanwhile, De Vera urged college students to be vaccinated for the planned expansion of face-to-face classes.
