Day 1 of 6 Webinar Series: GAD Guest Speaker Dr. Rodas Talks About Masculinity

Southern Luzon State University – Gender and Development (GAD) Office prepared a series of webinars for Children’s Month, Men Opposed to Violence Everywhere (MOVE) Activities, and 18-day Campaign to End Violence Against Women Celebration.

GAD Head Dr. Susana A. Salvacion, in the opening remarks, stated that their office facilitated the webinar to give a special dedication to men. She added that November must be celebrated as Men’s Month – citing that when women are celebrated during March, men too must be acknowledged.

VP for REPDI, Dr. Marissa C. Esperal called out the alarming growth of violent cases and encouraged everyone to promote gender sensitivity and responsibility. Dr. Doracie B. Zoleta-Nantes, second the motion, and requested men to recognize the importance of their roles – to be more proactive in reducing the violent acts against the most vulnerable ones in our society. She also stressed that violence against anybody does not stop unless the abuser/s see that they have a huge role to play – it will stop if they decide to stop.

The first part of the six series webinar tackled the deeper understanding of masculinity in the lens of psychology, with Dr. Marco Antonio Rodas as the guest speaker.

In his talk, Dr. Rodas emphasized toxic masculinity as well as the difference between men and women when it comes to their growth, stating that boys need a good role model when growing up.

GAD will conduct five more webinars on November 22, 25, 26, 29 and December 3. For further details click here: https://bit.ly/3DwsCIU
