Senate Hearing Discusses SLSU Franchise
The Committee on Public Services on December 9, 2021 discussed the Southern Luzon State University franchise under the House Bill No. 10122.
The bill is an act granting the university a franchise to construct, install, establish, operate, and maintain for educational and other related purposes radio and television broadcasting stations within its campuses in the Quezon Province.
The said bill aims to strengthen the initiatives of delivering quality education – using it for academic instruction; venue for on-the-job trainings for students majoring in communication and communications engineering; for flexible learning modes; coming up with programs that will allow to interact with farmers and other sectors, as part of the extension programs, and research programs; among others.
The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) advised the university to be registered at their commission as a “corporation partnership for one-person corporation” before the bill’s approval.
The Senate said they will be looking at the franchise of the University of the Philippines, since it is the first time that a state university is applying for a franchise outside its university.
