Dr. Doracie B. Zoleta-Nantes, university president, and Dr. Dhenalyn A. Dejelo, dean of the College of Allied Medicine, discussed the actions being made by SLSU in the institution of the SLSU College of Medicine.
According to Dr. Nantes, the planned College of Medicine is a response to the findings of World Health Organization pointing to the scarcity of medical doctors in Quezon province. The College of Medicine will be operational by 2022.
Dr. Dejelo, on the one hand, discussed the minimum requirements for future students of the College of Medicine, that of a 2.0 weighted average in the National Medical Admission Test (NMAT).
The said College of Medicine was supported by Cong. Angelina “Helen” Tan by authoring House Bill 7857 or “An Act Establishing a Medical School in the Southern Luzon State University in the Municipality of Lucban, Province of Quezon to be known as the Southern Luzon State University – College of Medicine and Appropriating Funds Therefor.” The said college will be the first State University-operated Medical School in the CALABARZON region.
